Targets by adding qobuz streaming s28/31/2023 For the record, I use dBpoweramp for ripping CDs and JRiver Media Center for playback of local files (will give Roon a try someday but think it's overkill for my own listening needs). I've taken the trouble and expense to buy good quality audio gear and to ensure the signal path is optimized for digital and analog signal flow, I've created bit-perfect rips of all my audio discs, and at this point I'm not staying awake at night worrying about what else needs to be fixed or upgraded. I'm no authority on these matters and my hearing sensitivity / listening skills are not at a level where I need to worry a great deal over such questions at this point. downloads.Ĭlick to expand.Good questions, and many good answers from those who've already chimed in. Of course I can and should do these comparisons myself and let me ears and taste decide but it would be nice to get some input before investing in a bunch of high res. download and burn it to CD I would assume that it would sound the same as a purchased CD? Assuming each are run through the same DAC, logic would seem to indicate that anomalies introduced by the transport and the lower res would result in lower quality sound.ģ. High res download vs purchasing the same on CD. Of course YMMV or perhaps I should say YMWV!Ģ. vs accessing the same files locally, and can folks hear the differences. I guess the question is how much crap is introduced through the router, other users on the network etc. Assuming in all cases that it is the same version, mastering, remix if applicable etc. I am wondering if any of you have done the following comparisons. I am considering buying some high res downloads and had a few questions. I recently got a Qubuz subscription, now finally available in Canada. I think a person can get equal results with all of these technologies, within whatever the confines of the recording and mastering are. And of course I'm going bit perfect to the DAC from the streaming source. I play streaming, downloads from a hard drive and CDs all through the same DAC, so it's a pretty good comparison, thought he CDs are going over coax with the transport clock governing while the streams and files are going over USB with the network bridge and DAC clocks each in charge.įiles from the HDD initially sounded better than streaming service files and better than CD, though that's more of an apples to oranges comparison, with the network bridge (a Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra, which is an audio optimized Raspberry Pi) but sticking in a network switch with an LPS - nothing fancy, a simple unmanaged Netgear switch, but something that give me a little isolation from the router and a little data buffering - turning off all the non used processes and connection tech (wifi, bluetooth) on the bridge and tweaking the playback software buffer (and adding galvanic isolation to the USB connection to the DAC), got me to the point where I don't think I could tell the difference between a streaming source and a local HDD file (I switch between these sources a lot but not usually doing comparisons with the same music).
